Two of our picks hit their lowest price of the past year in mid-November last year. The Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max fell to $200 on November 20 and costs about $350 as we checked in late October. A month before Black Friday, none of our seven picks is meaningfully below what it has sold for recently, so treat the prices we checked as the bar Black Friday has to clear.
We checked every price against what each purifier sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days and its lowest price of the past year, not the list price. All seven were sold by Amazon when we checked, and each Pick says whether it is a deal yet.
Our picks at a glance
7 deals1.Wirecutter's new top pick, faster than the original Mighty in HouseFresh's tests, and it has no ionizer. At full price for now.
2.The smart pick: app and voice control and close to the Mighty2's speed for about $100 less. A few dollars under its usual price.
3.Our budget pick for a small bedroom, dorm or office, and cheap to run. Not discounted yet; it sold for about $76 last November.
4.Our pick for large and open-plan rooms, with long-life filters. About $40 above its recent average; it fell to $200 last November.
5.The most carbon at its price for smoke, cooking and pet odors, and the ionizer switches off. A few dollars above its usual price.
6.Top-tier cleaning at quiet speeds in a purifier that doubles as a side table. About $50 above its recent average for now.
7.The quiet one for a nursery, home office or light sleeper, with a filter Dyson rates for up to five years. About at its usual price.
Our picks
#1Best overall
Coway Airmega Mighty2 (AP-1512N)
by Coway
The Mighty2 is the purifier most people should buy for a bedroom or living room. Wirecutter made it its top pick in May, its first new one in a decade. In its burned-dinner test it removed almost exactly as much smoke as the original Mighty, so the decision came down to noise, lighting and how easy it is to live with. HouseFresh found it cleared PM1 particles in 23 minutes at top speed and 38 minutes at the second setting, and across its tests it outperformed the original Mighty, the Vital 200S and the Winix 5510. RTINGS found it much better than the original at the low, quiet speeds you leave running overnight.
Skip it if you want phone control: it has no app, and the Vital 200S below does.
This is not a deal yet. At about $270 it matches its 90-day average, and it sold for about $216 in early August. We would wait for Black Friday week.
Pros
- +Beat the original Mighty, Vital 200S and Winix 5510 in HouseFresh's tests
- +Stronger than the original at low, quiet fan speeds in RTINGS testing
- +No ionizer
- +Slide-out pre-filter is easy to clean
- +Three-year warranty
Cons
- −No app or Wi-Fi
- −Buttons are not backlit
- −Auto mode drops to sleep speed when the room goes dark
- −Highest first-year running cost of the mid-size units HouseFresh tested
- App
- No
- Ionizer
- None
- Best for
- Bedrooms and living rooms

Levoit Vital 200S-P
by Levoit
The Vital 200S is the pick for anyone who wants an app, schedules and Alexa or Google voice control. HouseFresh cleared PM1 in 23 minutes with it, matching the Mighty2's top speed and one of the fastest results it has recorded under $200. Reviewed found it quiet at everyday settings, and like the Mighty2 it has no ionizer.
Live Science called it large and boxy, so measure the spot first if it is going in a small bedroom. The carbon and HEPA layers are bonded into one filter, which means replacing the whole thing once the carbon is spent, even if the HEPA layer still has life in it.
At about $170 from Amazon it is only a few dollars under its 90-day average, though that is still about $100 less than the Mighty2. It fell to about $140 in May, and that is the price to watch for.
Pros
- +Cleared PM1 in 23 minutes in HouseFresh's test
- +Simple app with Alexa and Google voice control
- +Quiet at everyday speeds in Reviewed's testing
- +Washable pre-filter
Cons
- −Large and boxy for a bedroom
- −Carbon and HEPA layers are bonded, so both go when the carbon is spent
- App
- Yes
- Ionizer
- None
- Best for
- Living rooms and open bedrooms

#3Best budget
Coway Airmega 100
by Coway
The Airmega 100 is our budget pick for a small bedroom, dorm or office. NBC Select names it a runner-up for small rooms, and HouseFresh measured a PM1 CADR of 148 cfm at top speed, enough for a room of about 220 sq ft at five air changes an hour. It is also cheap to run: HouseFresh put a year of filters and round-the-clock electricity at about $73.
Noise is the catch. HouseFresh measured 57.2 dBA at top speed and 46.5 dBA at the next setting down. Its carbon is a thin layer of fabric, so for smoke or cooking smells, look at the Winix 5510.
At about $120 it sits right at its 90-day average. It sold for about $76 in mid-November last year, so the budget pick has the most room to fall.
Pros
- +Strong particle removal for its size
- +Particle sensor with auto mode and a color air quality light
- +Draws about 23 W at top speed in HouseFresh's test
- +Coway rates the filter for 12 months
- +Night light
Cons
- −Loud at top speed, 57.2 dBA in HouseFresh's test
- −Carbon fabric layer does little for strong odors
- −No app
- −Sized for rooms up to about 220 sq ft
- App
- No
- Ionizer
- None
- Best for
- Small bedrooms, dorms and offices

#4
Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max
by Blueair
For a big living room or an open-plan space, the Blue Pure 211i Max is the one to buy. Wirecutter and NBC Select both name it their large-room pick, and NBC Select rates it for rooms up to about 635 sq ft. RTINGS found its particle filtration strong, and the main filter lasts longer than most. The fabric pre-filter slips off for washing.
Two things to know first. RTINGS found the ionizer cannot be turned off, so anyone who wants to avoid one should look at the Mighty2 or Vital 200S. It is also loud at top speed.
This is the weakest price on the list right now. At about $350 it costs roughly $40 more than its 90-day average and sits within pennies of its list price. It fell to $200 on November 20 last year, which is the reason to wait.
Pros
- +Large-room pick at Wirecutter and NBC Select
- +Strong particle filtration in RTINGS testing
- +Long-lasting main filter
- +Washable fabric pre-filter
Cons
- −Ionizer cannot be turned off
- −Loud at top speed
- −Takes up a lot of floor space
- App
- Yes
- Ionizer
- Always on
- Best for
- Large and open-plan rooms

The Winix 5510 is our pick when the problem is a smell rather than dust: wildfire smoke, a kitchen with no range hood, or a litter box. HouseFresh counted 226 g of activated carbon, the most at this price, and it cleared PM1 in 24 minutes at top speed. Its PlasmaWave ionizer switches off, and the app shows no ads. It replaces the 5500-2, long a favorite at Wirecutter and on Reddit.
It is loud at full speed. HouseFresh measured 67.2 dBA at top speed, louder than rivals with the same CADR, and it trails them at the quiet settings you would use in a bedroom. Light sleepers should pick the Mighty2.
At about $180 it is a few dollars above its 90-day average. It sold for about $123 in late June, so there is plenty of room for a Black Friday cut.
Pros
- +226 g of activated carbon for smoke and odors
- +Cleared PM1 in 24 minutes at top speed in HouseFresh's test
- +PlasmaWave ionizer can be switched off
- +App without ads
Cons
- −Loud at top speed, 67.2 dBA in HouseFresh's test
- −Weaker than rivals at quiet settings below 45 dBA
- App
- Yes
- Ionizer
- Can be turned off
- Best for
- Smoke, cooking and pet odors

#6Best premium
Blueair Blue Signature SP4i
by Blueair
The Blue Signature is for buyers who want top-tier cleaning and a purifier that looks like furniture. HouseFresh rates it among the best it has tested at both high and quiet speeds, with an AHAM-rated PM2.5 CADR of 434 cfm and an accurate laser sensor, and found it cheap to run for that much power. Tom's Guide names it its best air purifier overall, and TechRadar found it quiet for the price. The flat top works as a side table.
As with the 211i Max, the ionizer cannot be disabled. The legs or base that lift it off the floor cost extra, and HouseFresh measured 59.6 dBA at top speed.
At about $440 it sits roughly $50 above its 90-day average. It sold for about $300 in March, so we would not pay this price.
Pros
- +AHAM-rated PM2.5 CADR of 434 cfm
- +Among the best HouseFresh has tested at both high and quiet speeds
- +Furniture-style design works as a side table
- +Accurate laser particle sensor
- +Low running cost for its cleaning power
Cons
- −Ionizer cannot be turned off
- −Legs or base cost extra
- −59.6 dBA at top speed in HouseFresh's test
- App
- Yes
- Ionizer
- Always on
- Best for
- Large living rooms

Dyson Hushjet Purifier Compact
by Dyson
The Hushjet Compact is the one for a nursery, a home office or anyone who sleeps with the purifier on. Engadget names it its best purifier for small rooms and singled out how quietly it runs, as did TechRadar, and Dyson rates the filter for up to five years, so you will rarely buy a replacement. It connects to the MyDyson app over Wi-Fi.
You pay a lot for its size. The Airmega 100 handles a small bedroom for well under half the price, if you can live with more noise. Tom's Guide found the Hushjet too big to sit on a desk, and unlike Dyson's better-known purifiers it does not double as a fan.
At about $300 it is a couple of dollars under its 90-day average, so the card's saving is against a list price it rarely sells for. It fell to about $250 in mid-August.
Pros
- +Quiet running praised by Engadget and TechRadar
- +Filter rated for up to five years
- +MyDyson app over Wi-Fi
- +Auto mode and timer
Cons
- −Costs more than rivals of its size
- −Too big to sit on a desk
- −Does not double as a fan like other Dyson purifiers
- App
- Yes
- Ionizer
- None
- Best for
- Nurseries and home offices

How to choose an air purifier this Black Friday
Size it by CADR, not by the coverage figure on the box. AHAM suggests a CADR of about two-thirds of the room's floor area in square feet. The "up to 1,800 sq ft" claims assume one air change an hour, far fewer than the five the CDC suggests. The Airmega 100 suits a small bedroom, the Mighty2 and Vital 200S a larger bedroom or living room, and the Blueairs an open-plan space.
Buy carbon for smells, HEPA for particles. Every pick here traps dust, pollen and dander well. Smoke, cooking and pet smells need activated carbon, and the Winix 5510 packs 226 g of it, the most at its price.
Decide whether you mind an ionizer. The Mighty2, Vital 200S, Airmega 100 and Hushjet do without one, the Winix 5510's switches off, and both Blueairs run theirs all the time.
Ignore the list price. The struck-through price on a card is often a number nobody has paid in months. Judge a deal by what the purifier sold for over the past 90 days and by its 12-month low, both quoted in every Pick. Last year the 211i Max and Airmega 100 hit their 12-month lows between November 14 and November 20.
Count the cost of filters. You will replace the filter every year or so on most of these, so a cheap purifier with expensive filters can cost more over three years. A year of Airmega 100 filters cost HouseFresh about $38, and Dyson rates the Hushjet's filter for up to five years.
How we chose these air purifier deals
Every deal on this page was selected and checked by Ed Hollinghurst. We start from products with a strong track record in independent reviews and owner feedback, then compare the current Black Friday price against the product's typical selling price over the past months, not just the inflated list price. A deal only makes the cut if the product is genuinely good and the discount is real.
