Dyson vacuums are worth timing for Black Friday because the gap between a quiet month and a sale month is wide: Amazon's V15 Detect Plus listing, a bundle of the same vacuum we rank first, has sold for both about $500 and about $850 in the past year. Amazon has already cut every Dyson on this page a month early: the corded Ball Animal 3 and the PencilVac are each about $70 under their 90-day averages, and both V16 models are at their lowest prices of the past year.
We checked every price against what each vacuum sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days and its lowest price of the past year, not the list price. Every Pick here was sold by Amazon itself when we checked.
Our picks at a glance
7 deals1.The Dyson most homes should buy: laser dust detection and strong lab results on every floor type. About $60 under its usual price.
2.The cheapest current Dyson stick we would buy, with 60 minutes of runtime. About $300, matching its lowest price of the past year.
3.Twin cone-shaped brush bars that shed long hair instead of wrapping it, for under $400. A small cut, but it matches its lowest price since launch.
4.Dyson's most powerful stick, plus a wet roller that mops hard floors. At its lowest price of the past year, about $70 under its usual price.
5.The same 315 AW V16 without the mop head, for $100 less than the Submarine. At its lowest price of the past year.
6.Corded upright power for carpet-heavy homes. About $70 under its usual price and within a dollar of its lowest of the past year.
7.Dyson's slimmest vacuum, for small homes with hard floors. About $70 under its usual price and the lowest it has been.
Our picks
#1Best overall
Dyson V15 Detect
by Dyson
The V15 Detect is the Dyson we would buy for most homes. RTINGS calls it the best Dyson it has tested, with strong results on bare floors, low-pile carpet and pet hair, and Vacuum Wars ranks it first among Dyson's cordless sticks. Tech Advisor liked the laser that shows dust on hard floors and the battery that clicks out for a spare.
Skip it if you mostly clean in handheld mode, because reviewers found it top-heavy over long sessions. TechHive also found the automatic suction mode fussy on delicate rugs.
At under $650 from Amazon, it is about $60 under its 90-day average. It did sell for about $600 in early October, so a Black Friday price should match that before you call it the best of the year.
Pros
- +The best Dyson RTINGS has tested
- +Laser shows fine dust on hard floors
- +Particle sensor adjusts suction and counts debris
- +Click-in battery you can swap for a spare
Cons
- −Top-heavy in handheld use
- −Runtime drops quickly on carpet
- −Auto mode can struggle on delicate rugs
- −About 4.5 hours to recharge
- Type
- Cordless stick
- Suction
- 240 AW
- Runtime
- Up to 60 min

#2Best budget
Dyson V8 Cyclone
by Dyson
The V8 Cyclone replaced the original V8 as Dyson's entry-level stick in the US this year, and it is the cheapest current Dyson we would buy. Dyson rates it for more suction and up to 60 minutes of runtime, against the old V8's 40, and the battery swaps out. Vacuum Wars found it strong at deep-cleaning carpet, and TechRadar praised its cleaning power for the money while noting it feels less premium than other Dysons.
The Motorbar head tends to push large debris around on hard floors, and the bin is small. If you want tangle resistance for long hair, the V10 Konical below is about $100 more.
At about $300, it is only $23 under its usual price, but that matches its lowest price of the past year.
Pros
- +More suction and runtime than the original V8
- +Swappable battery
- +Strong carpet deep cleaning in Vacuum Wars testing
- +Passed Vacuum Wars' sealed-filtration test
Cons
- −Motorbar head pushes large debris around on hard floors
- −Small 0.14-gallon bin
- −No auto mode or particle sensor
- −Feels less premium than pricier Dysons
- Type
- Cordless stick
- Suction
- 150 AW
- Runtime
- Up to 60 min
- Floors
- All floors

#3
Dyson V10 Konical
by Dyson
The V10 Konical is the mid-price pick for homes with long hair or a shedding dog. Its two cone-shaped brush bars push hair off the ends instead of letting it wrap, and Dyson says they cope with strands up to 25 inches long. TechRadar called its suction outstanding, and Vacuum Wars measured strong surface pickup on both hard floors and carpet.
Vacuum Wars found it weaker at deep-cleaning thick carpet and at holding full power for long, so carpet-heavy homes should look at the Ball Animal 3 or the V15 Detect. It launched in the US in June, so there are fewer owner reports than for older Dysons.
Under $400 is about $20 under its 90-day average. The cut is small, but it matches the lowest price it has sold for since its summer launch.
Pros
- +Conical brush bars push long hair off the ends
- +Strong pickup on hard floors and carpet in Vacuum Wars testing
- +HEPA filtration
- +Works with Dyson's optional auto-empty dock
Cons
- −Weaker deep cleaning in thick carpet
- −The dock is bulky and sold separately
- −Short owner track record since its June launch
- Type
- Cordless stick
- Suction
- 150 AW
- Runtime
- Up to 60 min
- Floors
- All floors

#4Best premium
Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine
by Dyson
This is the Dyson to buy if price is no object and you have hard floors to mop. Dyson's newest flagship has the most suction in the lineup, up to 70 minutes of runtime and a bin that compresses debris so you empty it less often. Vacuum Wars, which ranks it second among Dyson's cordless sticks behind the V15 Detect, found it vacuums as well as the standard V16 and does better than most on dried-on stains.
It is not a clear upgrade on vacuuming alone. RTINGS rates the V15 Detect a better vacuum, TechRadar disliked the floorhead design on the standard V16, and you swap heads as you move between floor types.
At under $900, it is about $70 under its usual price and at its lowest of the past year. Amazon showed a delayed ship date when we checked, so check the delivery estimate if it is a gift.
Pros
- +315 AW, the most suction of any Dyson here
- +Wet roller lifts dried-on stains
- +Up to 70 minutes of runtime
- +Compressing bin holds more between empties
- +Laser dust detection and particle sensor
Cons
- −Floorhead design drew criticism from TechRadar
- −Heads must be swapped by floor type
- −Compressing bin struggles with pet hair
- Type
- Cordless stick, wet and dry
- Suction
- 315 AW
- Runtime
- Up to 70 min
- Floors
- All floors, mops hard floors

#5
Dyson V16 Piston Animal
by Dyson
The standard V16 gives you the flagship's motor and runtime without the wet roller, for $100 less than the Submarine. Vacuum Wars gave it a perfect score for deep-cleaning carpet and found no leaks in its sealed HEPA test, which matters to allergy sufferers.
The trade-offs are the same as the Submarine's: a floorhead TechRadar called poorly designed, and head swapping between carpet and hard floors. Vacuum Wars also found hair wrapped its brush more than average, so pet owners are better served by the V10 Konical. Tech Advisor saw it as an inessential upgrade from the V15 Detect, which costs about $150 less.
At under $800, it is about $78 under its 90-day average and at its lowest price of the past year.
Pros
- +Perfect carpet deep-clean score in Vacuum Wars testing
- +Flawless sealed HEPA result
- +315 AW and up to 70 minutes
- +Comes with a cone head and a laser soft roller
Cons
- −Below-average hair-tangle result
- −Heads must be swapped by floor type
- −Floorhead design drew criticism from TechRadar
- Type
- Cordless stick
- Suction
- 315 AW
- Runtime
- Up to 70 min
- Floors
- All floors

#6
Dyson Ball Animal 3
by Dyson
The Ball Animal 3 is for carpet-heavy homes that do not need cordless. RTINGS found it much stronger on carpet than Shark's APEX upright, TechRadar called its suction extraordinarily strong, and Modern Castle scored it 99% on performance. With a cord, there is no battery to fade or replace.
It weighs about 17 pounds, it is loud, and it takes up a lot of closet space. Anyone with stairs or a small apartment will be happier with a stick.
At about $300, it is about $70 under its usual price and within a dollar of its lowest of the past year. It costs about the same as the V8 Cyclone, which is the better choice if you want cordless.
Pros
- +Much stronger on carpet than Shark's APEX in RTINGS testing
- +Corded, so no battery to wear out
- +De-tangling Motorbar head
- +Scored 99% on performance in Modern Castle testing
Cons
- −About 17 lb
- −Bulky to store
- −Loud in use
- Type
- Corded upright
- Suction
- 290 AW
- Runtime
- Corded
- Floors
- All floors, best on carpet

#7
Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones
by Dyson
The PencilVac is Dyson's slimmest vacuum, built for quick daily passes in apartments with hard floors. TechRadar found it hard to beat for homes with mostly hard floors, and Expert Reviews found it compact and very effective on them. Tom's Guide thought it impractical on paper, then found it became the vacuum they reached for first.
It is not a whole-home machine. Dyson designed it for hard floors only, RTINGS found it weak on pet hair on carpet and furniture, and the bin and 30-minute runtime are small. Buy it as a second vacuum, or as your only one if you have no rugs.
At $440, it is about $70 under its 90-day average and at its lowest price yet.
Pros
- +About 4 lb with the wand and floor head
- +Very effective on hard floors in Expert Reviews testing
- +Slim enough to store in a narrow closet
Cons
- −Hard floors only
- −Struggles with pet hair on carpet and furniture
- −About 30 minutes of runtime
- −Tiny 0.08-liter bin
- Type
- Cordless stick, hard floors
- Suction
- 55 AW
- Runtime
- Up to 30 min
- Floors
- Hard floors only

How to choose a Dyson vacuum this Black Friday
Start with your floors. For mostly carpet, look at the Ball Animal 3 or the V16 Piston Animal, which had the strongest carpet results in the reviews we read. For mostly hard floors, the PencilVac is enough, and the V16 Submarine adds mopping. Mixed homes should start with the V15 Detect.
Decide whether long hair is a problem. If hair wraps your brush bars every week, the V10 Konical's cone-shaped bars are built for it. The V16 Piston Animal's tangle results were below average in Vacuum Wars testing.
Weigh power against handling. Reviewers found the V15 Detect top-heavy over long sessions in handheld mode, and the corded Ball Animal 3 weighs about 17 pounds. If you clean stairs and upholstery often, hold a flagship stick in a store before you buy one. The PencilVac weighs about 4 pounds but only cleans hard floors.
Ignore the list price. Dyson list prices are high, and the struck-through price on a card is often a number few people pay. Judge a deal by what the vacuum sold for over the past 90 days and its lowest price of the past year, which we compare against in every Pick.
Buy from Amazon itself, not a third-party seller. Dyson's warranty may not cover a machine from a seller Dyson has not authorized, so check who is selling before you order.
If you would rather not push a vacuum at all, our robot vacuum deals cover the robots we would buy instead.
How we chose these dyson vacuum deals
