Nintendo raised the Switch 2 to $499.99 on September 1, and a month before Black Friday none of the consoles on this page costs less than its usual Amazon price. The value this season is in bundles, which add a game and three months of Switch Online for $30 to $51 more than the console, and in accessories: the Switch 2 Camera and SanDisk's 256GB microSD Express card are both at their lowest prices of the past year.
We checked every price against what each Pick sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days and its lowest price of the past year, not the list price. Where a Pick is not discounted, it says so.
Our picks at a glance
8 deals1.The Switch 2 to buy, with Mario Kart World and three months of Switch Online. At its usual price; the bundle is the saving.
2.The same console without a game, for anyone who owns Mario Kart World or wants to start elsewhere. A dollar under Nintendo's new price.
3.The family bundle: Switch 2, a motion-control sports game and three months of Switch Online for $30 more than the console alone.
4.The cheapest Nintendo console worth buying, best for a young child or a handheld-only player. At its usual price; it was $199 a year ago.
5.The best controller for Switch 2 TV play, with about 40 hours per charge and back buttons. At its usual price; it was $84.99 in June.
6.Doubles Switch 2 storage and loaded games fastest in The Game Post's card test. At its lowest price of the past year, about $2 under usual.
7.Drift-resistant sticks and a charging dock for about $32 less than Nintendo's Pro Controller. About $4 under its usual price.
8.Nintendo's 1080p camera for GameChat and camera games, at its lowest price of the past year and about $5 under its usual price.

Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle (with 3-month Switch Online)
by Nintendo
This is the Switch 2 most households should buy. Tom's Guide gave the console 4.5 out of 5, TechRadar described the jump over the original Switch as enormous, and The Verge was more reserved. Mario Kart World is the game most new owners want first, and this fall's version of the bundle adds three months of Nintendo Switch Online, which you need for online races.
The game arrives as a download code, not a cartridge, so you can't lend or resell it. Battery life is the common complaint: Nintendo rates it at 2 to 6.5 hours.
There is no discount. At $549.99 it matches its usual Amazon price and has not sold for less since Amazon listed it in September. The saving is built in: it costs about $51 more than the console alone, and Nintendo puts the saving at $37.98 against buying the three separately.
Pros
- +Large performance jump over the original Switch
- +7.9-inch 1080p screen that runs at up to 120Hz
- +Magnetic Joy-Con 2 that double as a mouse
- +Mario Kart World and three months of Switch Online included
Cons
- −Battery lasts about 2 to 6.5 hours
- −LCD screen, not OLED, with weak HDR in handheld mode
- −Game is a download code, not a cartridge
- Type
- Console bundle
- Works with
- Switch 2 and most Switch games
- Key spec
- 7.9-in 1080p screen, 120Hz

Nintendo Switch 2
by Nintendo
Buy the console on its own if you already own Mario Kart World or want a different first game. It is the same hardware as the bundle: the 7.9-inch 1080p screen, 256GB of storage and the magnetic Joy-Con 2, which also work as a mouse in games that support it. Most Switch 1 games run on it, so an existing library carries over.
At $499 from Amazon it is a dollar under Nintendo's new price. Its 90-day average looks lower, about $480, only because that window reaches back to August, before the price rise, when it sold for $449. We would not wait for the old price to return on Black Friday. If you would buy Mario Kart World in the first month anyway, the bundle above is the cheaper route.
Pros
- +Large performance jump over the original Switch
- +7.9-inch 1080p screen that runs at up to 120Hz
- +256GB of internal storage
- +Plays most of the Switch 1 library
Cons
- −Battery lasts about 2 to 6.5 hours
- −LCD screen, not OLED, with weak HDR in handheld mode
- −Extra game storage needs a microSD Express card
- Type
- Console
- Works with
- Switch 2 and most Switch games
- Key spec
- 7.9-in 1080p screen, 120Hz

Nintendo Switch 2 + Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Bundle
by Nintendo
The newest bundle, released October 22, pairs the same console with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort as a download code, plus three months of Switch Online. It suits families who want a motion-controlled party game the whole room can join, where Mario Kart World suits players who already race. The game is too new for us to point to reviews, and the bundle listing has only a handful of ratings, so the case for it rests on the console.
At $529 from Amazon it is a dollar under Nintendo's price and $30 more than the console alone, the smallest step up of the two bundles. It has not sold for less since Amazon listed it in September. Nintendo's own figure for the saving here is $27.98, so if Mario Kart World appeals at all, the top Pick is the better value.
Pros
- +Same Switch 2 console and Joy-Con 2
- +Switch Sports Resort and three months of Switch Online included
- +Motion-control sports that non-gamers can pick up
Cons
- −Game is too new to have been widely reviewed
- −Game is a download code, not a cartridge
- −Battery lasts about 2 to 6.5 hours
- Type
- Console bundle
- Works with
- Switch 2 and most Switch games
- Key spec
- 7.9-in 1080p screen, 120Hz

#4Best budget
Nintendo Switch Lite (Turquoise)
by Nintendo
The Switch Lite is the cheapest Nintendo console still worth buying, and the one we would give a young child or someone who only plays on the go. VGC called it a second console worth owning, and Tom's Guide rates it well for comfort and battery life. It plays the large Switch 1 library, and with no detachable parts there is nothing to lose.
Know what you give up. It can't connect to a TV, games that need detached Joy-Con require buying a pair separately, and it won't run Switch 2 exclusives. If the person you are buying for wants Mario Kart World, save for a Switch 2.
At $229 it is at its usual price; it sold for $199 a year ago.
Pros
- +Plays the large Switch 1 library
- +One-piece body with no controllers to lose
- +Small and light enough for any bag
- +Comfortable for long handheld sessions
Cons
- −Handheld only, with no TV output
- −Controllers don't detach for motion or party games
- −Can't play Switch 2 exclusives
- −Only 32GB of storage
- Type
- Handheld console
- Works with
- Switch games (handheld mode)
- Key spec
- 32GB storage

Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller
by Nintendo
If you play on a TV, this is the first accessory to add. TechRadar ranks it the best Switch 2 accessory, citing the build, the smooth sticks and about 40 hours from a charge, and Tom's Guide praised its shape and treated it as close to essential for the console. The back buttons take remapped inputs, and the headphone jack means no dongle for wired headphones. It also gives a second player something better than a single Joy-Con.
Reviewers' main complaints are that the sticks are not a drift-resistant Hall effect design and the triggers are simple on/off buttons. The 8BitDo below addresses both for less money.
At $89 it is at its usual Amazon price. The lowest we saw in the past year was $84.99, in June.
Pros
- +About 40 hours of play per charge
- +Two remappable back buttons
- +3.5mm headphone jack
- +Solid build and comfortable shape
Cons
- −Sticks are not drift-resistant Hall effect or TMR designs
- −Digital triggers with no analog travel
- Type
- Controller
- Works with
- Switch 2
- Key spec
- About 40 hours battery

SanDisk 256GB microSD Express Card
by SanDisk
Switch 2 owners fill the 256GB of built-in storage sooner than they expect, and the console only accepts microSD Express cards for games, so the card from an old Switch won't help. This one doubles the storage and was the quickest of the cards in The Game Post's load test: Mario Kart World opened in about 19 seconds, against about 17 from internal storage. Samsung's licensed card was a fraction of a second behind.
These cards still cost more per gigabyte than ordinary microSD, and none matches internal storage for speed.
Ignore the $134.99 list price. At $58.99 it is about $2 under its 90-day average and matches its lowest price of the past year, so this is a fair price rather than a deep cut.
Pros
- +Fastest load times in The Game Post's card test
- +Doubles the Switch 2's storage
- +The card type the Switch 2 requires for games
Cons
- −Costs more per gigabyte than ordinary microSD cards
- −Games still load slower than from internal storage
- Type
- microSD Express card
- Works with
- Switch 2
- Key spec
- 256GB

8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller (Black)
by 8BitDo
The Ultimate 2 is the controller to get if the Pro Controller's price puts you off. Engadget scored it 9.5 out of 10 and named it the best Switch 2 controller it had tried. Its TMR sticks resist the drift that plagued original Joy-Con, the triggers switch between Hall effect and a clicky tactile mode, and it charges on an included dock. It also works with an original Switch and a Windows PC, so it outlives a console upgrade.
Setup takes some patience: it needs a firmware update before it pairs with a Switch 2, and owners often mention that step. It has no headphone jack, unlike Nintendo's controller.
At $56.99 it is about $4 under its 90-day average and a few dollars above its March low of $53.19. A small cut, but it costs about $32 less than the Pro Controller.
Pros
- +TMR sticks that resist drift
- +Triggers switch between Hall effect and tactile modes
- +Charging dock in the box
- +Back buttons, and works with Switch, Switch 2 and Windows
Cons
- −Needs a firmware update before it pairs with a Switch 2
- −No headphone jack
- Type
- Controller
- Works with
- Switch 2, Switch, Windows
- Key spec
- TMR sticks, charging dock

Nintendo Switch 2 Camera
by Nintendo
The Switch 2 Camera puts your face in GameChat video calls and in games that use a camera. TechRadar picks it as the best camera for the console: it records 1080p video, takes in a wide view of the room and has a privacy shutter. Hori's licensed alternatives record at only 480p, which is why we chose Nintendo's.
The stand is rigid and does not swivel side to side, and it is awkward to use with the console in handheld mode, so treat it as an accessory for TV play.
At $29.99 it is about $5 under its 90-day average and matches its lowest price of the past year. That is the price to judge it by; the $54.99 list price is not what it has been selling for.
Pros
- +1080p video, well above Hori's 480p licensed cameras
- +Wide field of view
- +Built-in privacy shutter
Cons
- −Rigid stand with no side-to-side swivel
- −Awkward to use with the console in handheld mode
- Type
- Camera
- Works with
- Switch 2
- Key spec
- 1080p video

How to choose a Nintendo Switch this Black Friday
Decide between a Switch 2 and a Switch Lite first. Switch 2 exclusives, including Mario Kart World, do not run on any original Switch model. The Lite makes sense for a young child or a handheld-only player on a tight budget; anyone who wants TV play or the newest games should buy a Switch 2.
Buy a bundle only for a game you would buy anyway. The Mario Kart World and Switch Sports Resort bundles each add a download code and three months of Switch Online for $30 to $51 more than the console. If you would buy that game in the first month, the bundle is cheaper; if not, buy the console and choose your own game.
Budget for a microSD Express card. The Switch 2 only reads microSD Express cards for games, so an older card won't help. A 256GB card doubles the storage for about $60.
Add a full-size controller for TV play. The Joy-Con 2 are fine for handheld and casual play, but the Pro Controller or the 8BitDo is more comfortable for long sessions on the couch and gives a second player a proper pad.
Ignore the list price and check the seller. The SanDisk card and the Switch 2 Camera both show list prices far above their 90-day averages, so judge a deal by the 90-day average and 12-month low we quote in each Pick. Every Pick here was sold by Amazon itself when we checked. Amazon usually extends returns over the holidays, but confirm the return date on your order page.
How we chose these nintendo switch deals
Every deal on this page was selected and checked by Ed Hollinghurst. A deal only makes the cut if the product is genuinely good and the discount is real.
