Last year the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) dropped to about $200 two weeks before Black Friday, and the AirPods 4 with noise cancelling reached their lowest price of the past year over Thanksgiving weekend. A month out this year, most flagships cost more than their recent average. The real savings so far are on cheaper pairs: the AirPods 4 with noise cancelling already sit about $24 under their usual price.
We checked every price below against what each pair sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days, and against its lowest price of the past year, not the list price. Where a pair costs more now than its recent average, we say so in its Pick.
Our picks at a glance
8 deals1.The best earbuds for iPhone owners, with top-rated noise cancelling and health features. Not discounted yet; it sold for less this summer.
2.Our pick for any phone: top-tier noise cancelling, excellent call mics and LDAC. Still near launch price, so wait for a cut.
3.The strongest noise blocking for flights and commutes, on iPhone or Android. Priced above its recent average right now.
4.Noise cancelling AirPods without silicone tips, and the clearest saving here: about $24 under their recent selling price.
5.The pick for Galaxy phone owners, with clear, detailed sound and IP57. Near full price today after a dip earlier in October.
6.The cheapest pair we would buy: LDAC, capable noise cancelling and long battery, at its lowest price of the past year.
7.Workout earbuds with ear hooks that stay put and a heart-rate sensor, about $20 under their recent selling price.
8.A value pair with LDAC, multipoint and wireless charging, but only a third-party seller has it today, well above its usual price.
Our picks
#1Best overall
Apple AirPods Pro 3
by Apple
The AirPods Pro 3 take the top spot because the iPhone is the most common phone in the US, and for iPhone owners no other earbuds do as much. SoundGuys measured stronger noise cancelling from them than from any other earbuds it has tested, and Apple added a heart-rate sensor and a hearing aid mode. Moving between an iPhone, iPad and Mac takes no effort.
Android owners should skip to the Sony or Bose below, because most of these extras disappear on a non-Apple phone. The fit also sits deeper than the Pro 2, which some reviewers found less comfortable.
This is not a deal yet. At just under $230, they cost about $30 more than their average over the past three months, and they dropped below $170 in June. We would wait for Black Friday week.
Pros
- +Strongest noise cancelling SoundGuys has measured
- +Heart-rate sensor and hearing aid mode
- +IP57 dust and water rating
- +Instant pairing and switching across Apple devices
Cons
- −Most extras need an iPhone
- −Deeper fit than the Pro 2 doesn't suit every ear
- −Only basic EQ controls
- Battery (ANC on)
- 8 hours
- Water resistance
- IP57
- Hi-res codec
- None (AAC)

#2Best premium
Sony WF-1000XM6
by Sony
Sony's WF-1000XM6, launched in February, is the pair we would buy for any phone. The noise cancelling is in the same league as the Bose and the AirPods Pro 3, SoundGuys gave it the best microphone score of any earbuds it tested, and Sony's app adds LDAC, multipoint and a 10-band EQ. It suits people who take a lot of calls or switch between an Android phone and a laptop.
They are large, though. SoundGuys flags the size for small ears and What Hi-Fi found the case bulky, so small ears may be happier with the AirPods 4 or the Bose.
The price is close to the $330 launch price and about $20 above its 90-day average, after a brief drop to under $260 in early October. That October price is the one to wait for. The listing we track is the Platinum Silver finish.
Pros
- +Noise cancelling among the best available
- +Top microphone score in SoundGuys testing
- +LDAC, multipoint and a 10-band EQ
- +Full app support on iPhone and Android
Cons
- −Large for small ears
- −Bulky charging case
- −Limited choice of ear tips in the box
- Battery (ANC on)
- 8 hours
- Water resistance
- IPX4
- Hi-res codec
- LDAC

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen)
by Bose
If blocking noise is the whole point, buy the Bose. Engadget found the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) blocked more noise than anything else it recommends, and What Hi-Fi called them Bose's best noise cancelling yet. CustomTune adjusts the sound to your ears each time you put them in, and they work the same on iPhone and Android. Frequent flyers and train commuters get the most from them.
Battery is the trade-off: about six hours, or four with Immersive Audio on, so long flights mean a top-up from the case.
Right now they cost around $300, about $20 more than their recent average, and they fell to about $200 two weeks before Black Friday last year. If that pattern repeats, waiting should pay off.
Pros
- +Most noise blocked in Engadget's testing
- +CustomTune calibrates sound to your ears
- +Immersive Audio spatial mode
- +Wireless charging case
Cons
- −About 6 hours per charge, 4 with Immersive Audio on
- Battery (ANC on)
- 6 hours
- Water resistance
- IPX4
- Hi-res codec
- aptX Adaptive (Snapdragon phones)

#4
Apple AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation
by Apple
This is the clearest saving on the list as we checked it. At $119, the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation sit about $24 below their average over the past three months and about $20 above their lowest price of the past year, which was around Cyber Monday last year.
They suit iPhone owners who find silicone tips uncomfortable. The open fit rests in the ear rather than sealing it, yet Expert Reviews still found the noise cancelling effective for the design. It will not match the AirPods Pro 3 on a plane, and the battery runs about four hours with noise cancelling on. If you want the strongest cancelling and can live with tips, wait for the Pro 3 to drop instead.
Pros
- +Noise cancelling without silicone ear tips
- +Open fit that rests in the ear
- +Small case with wireless charging
- +Effortless pairing with iPhone
Cons
- −About 4 hours per charge with ANC on
- −Noise cancelling trails the AirPods Pro 3
- −No EQ
- Battery (ANC on)
- 4 hours
- Water resistance
- IP54
- Hi-res codec
- None (AAC)

#5
Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro
by Samsung
Galaxy phone owners should start here. Several features only work with a Samsung phone, including Samsung's hi-res codec and automatic switching between Galaxy devices, which is why we rank them below the Sony for everyone else. What Hi-Fi praised the clear, detailed sound, and Expert Reviews put them close to the WF-1000XM6.
TechRadar's review is the caution: fit and battery remain weak spots, and RTINGS measured about six hours per charge. If they slip out during exercise, the Powerbeats Pro 2 below are the safer choice.
The price is within a few dollars of the $250 list price and in line with its 90-day average, so this is not a sale. They dropped under $190 earlier in October, which shows what a real discount looks like.
Pros
- +Clear, detailed sound
- +IP57 earbuds
- +Hi-res audio over Samsung's codec on Galaxy phones
- +Wireless charging case
Cons
- −Best features need a Galaxy phone
- −About 6 hours per charge with ANC on
- −Fit feels insecure for some ears
- Battery (ANC on)
- 6 hours
- Water resistance
- IP57 (earbuds)
- Hi-res codec
- SSC (Galaxy phones)

#6Best budget
CMF Buds 2 Plus
by CMF by Nothing
The CMF Buds 2 Plus, from Nothing's budget brand, are the cheapest pair we would buy, and SoundGuys named them its best budget earbuds. You get LDAC on Android, noise cancelling SoundGuys rated good for the price, an IP55 rating and roughly 33 hours of playback with the case and noise cancelling on.
The default tuning leans heavily on bass, so spend a minute in the app's EQ. They suit anyone who wants decent noise cancelling for under $60 and has no use for Apple- or Samsung-only features.
At $59, they match their lowest price of the past year and sit about $10 under their 90-day average, and Amazon sells them directly. The listing we track is the Light Grey finish.
Pros
- +LDAC support on Android
- +About 33 hours with the case and ANC on
- +IP55 earbuds
- +Noise cancelling that is good for the money
Cons
- −Bass-heavy default tuning
- −Fit doesn't suit everyone
- −No Smart Dial, unlike the CMF Buds Pro 2
- Battery (ANC on)
- 7.5 hours
- Water resistance
- IP55 (earbuds)
- Hi-res codec
- LDAC

Beats Powerbeats Pro 2
by Beats
For running and the gym, the Powerbeats Pro 2 stay put where other earbuds work loose. The ear hooks lock them in place, the built-in heart-rate sensor feeds fitness apps, and they pair quickly with both iPhone and Android. SoundGuys named them its best workout earbuds.
Skip them if you want one pair for everything. There is no multipoint or EQ, the case is bulky, Engadget rated the noise cancelling as average, and Wareable reported occasional connection drops.
At about $200, they sit roughly $20 under their 90-day average and about $20 above their lowest price of the past year. The listing we track is Hyper Purple; other colors may be priced differently.
Pros
- +Ear hooks keep them in place on runs
- +Built-in heart-rate sensor
- +Quick pairing with iPhone and Android
- +Wireless charging case
Cons
- −No multipoint or EQ
- −Bulky case
- −Average noise cancelling
- −Some reports of connection dropouts
- Battery (ANC on)
- 8 hours
- Water resistance
- IPX4
- Hi-res codec
- None (AAC)

#8
Soundcore Space A40
by Anker
The Space A40 is here because it has long been one of the cheapest good noise cancelling pairs for any phone. Engadget named it its best budget earbuds, and it covers more than its usual price suggests: LDAC, multipoint, wireless charging and an adjustable EQ. Tom's Guide found the noise cancelling a step below the best, which fits an older model.
We would not buy it at today's price. Amazon is not selling it directly right now, and the cheapest new offer, from a third-party seller, is close to $80, well above its 90-day average of about $56. It sold for under $45 last November. Until it comes back near its usual price, the CMF Buds 2 Plus above do more for less.
Pros
- +LDAC and multipoint
- +Wireless charging case
- +About 40 hours with the case
- +Adjustable EQ in the Soundcore app
Cons
- −Noise cancelling well behind the flagships
- −LDAC cuts battery life noticeably
- Battery (ANC on)
- 8 hours
- Water resistance
- IPX4
- Hi-res codec
- LDAC
- Best with

How to choose earbuds this Black Friday
Start with your phone. The AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods 4 lose most of their extras on Android, and the Galaxy Buds4 Pro keep their hi-res codec for Galaxy phones. The Sony, Bose, CMF, Beats and Soundcore pairs work well with either.
Decide how much noise cancelling you need. For flights and loud trains, pay for the Bose, the Sony or the AirPods Pro 3. For offices and walks, the AirPods 4 or the CMF Buds 2 Plus are enough.
Compare battery life with noise cancelling on. Headline figures often include the case and assume noise cancelling is off. Per charge with it on, our Picks range from about 4 hours (AirPods 4) to 8 hours (AirPods Pro 3, Sony, Powerbeats Pro 2 and Soundcore).
Match the water rating to how you use them. IPX4 covers sweat and rain. IP57, on the AirPods Pro 3 and Galaxy Buds4 Pro, is rated for immersion up to 1 meter. For running, fit matters as much as the rating, which is where ear hooks help.
Ignore the list price. Compare with what the pair sold for over the past few months. Several flagships cost more in late October than they did in the summer, so a sale badge on its own means little. Amazon's holiday return window usually runs to the end of January for November purchases, which gives you time to test the fit.
How we chose these earbuds deals
Every deal on this page was selected and checked by Ed Hollinghurst. We start from products with a strong track record in independent reviews and owner feedback, then compare the current Black Friday price against the product's typical selling price over the past months, not just the inflated list price. A deal only makes the cut if the product is genuinely good and the discount is real.
