Xbox consoles cost more this fall than they did at launch. Microsoft raised US prices again on August 1, so a real console cut would matter this Black Friday. Last year the bigger savings went to controllers and headsets instead. The Elite Series 2 Core controller is already at its lowest price of the past year, while the Series X costs what it has sold for since summer.
We checked every price against what each Product sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days and its lowest price of the past year, not the list price. Where a Pick is not discounted, or is sold by a third-party seller, its write-up says so.
Our picks at a glance
8 deals1.The Xbox to buy: full 4K performance and a disc drive for used games. Not discounted; it sold for far less before the August price rise.
2.The pad most Xbox owners need: light, comfortable and happy on a PC or phone. At its usual price; it fell to $38 last December.
3.The cheapest current Xbox, fine for Game Pass on a 1080p or 1440p TV. Sold by a third-party seller and not discounted when we checked.
4.Our budget wireless headset: more than 80 hours a charge and comfortable for long sessions. A little above its usual price right now.
5.Ends the standard controller's AA habit with a pack rated for 30 hours a charge. A fair price, a few cents under its usual.
6.The Xbox handheld for PC Game Pass away from the TV. About $80 under its 90-day average, from a third-party seller.
7.Microsoft's pro controller without the parts kit, at its lowest price of the past year and about $20 under its 90-day average.
8.Windows Central's top Xbox headset, with two-platform switching and an 80-hour battery. About $12 under its usual price.

Xbox Series X 1TB (Disc Drive)
by Microsoft
The disc-drive Series X is the Xbox we would buy if we were buying one console. It has three times the graphics power of the Series S, targets 4K at up to 120 frames per second, and its 4K Blu-ray drive keeps used and borrowed games on the table. Reports put Microsoft's next console in 2028, so this stays the current Xbox for a while.
If you only play Game Pass or downloads, the Digital Edition does the same job for about $50 less, and the Series S below costs far less again.
This is not a deal yet. At just under $800 from Amazon, it costs about $8 more than its 90-day average. It sold for $573 on June 1, before the August price rise.
Pros
- +4K at up to 120 frames per second
- +4K Blu-ray drive plays new, used and borrowed discs

Cons

- −Only about 800GB of the 1TB drive is free for games

Xbox Wireless Controller (Carbon Black)
by Microsoft
Most Xbox owners want a second controller or a replacement, and Microsoft's standard pad is the one to get. Windows Central ranks it first among Xbox controllers, and the same pad pairs over Bluetooth with a Windows PC or a phone for cloud gaming. This is the current model, with a USB-C port and a Share button.
It still runs on two AA batteries, so budget for the rechargeable pack below. There are no back buttons; competitive players should look at the Elite Series 2 Core instead.
At just under $50 from Amazon, it is about $15 under its list price, but that is simply what it has sold for over the past three months. It fell to $38 last December, and controllers were the most discounted Xbox items last Black Friday, so we would wait.
Pros
- +Light, comfortable shape
- +Pairs over Bluetooth with Windows, Android and iPhone
- +USB-C port and a Share button
- +Works with Xbox One as well as Series X|S
Cons
- −Runs on AA batteries
- −No back buttons
- −Owners report stick drift after heavy use
- Type
- Controller
- Works with
- Xbox, Windows, Android, iOS
- Power
- 2 AA batteries

#3Best budget
Xbox Series S 512GB
by Microsoft
The Series S is the cheapest way to play current Xbox games. It runs the same games as the Series X at lower resolution, aiming for 1440p rather than 4K, in a box a fraction of the size. For a Game Pass player on a 1080p or 1440p TV, or a second console for a kid's room, it is the right Xbox.
Plan for storage: only about 364GB of the drive is free for games, and a few large installs fill it. There is no disc drive, so every game is a download.
We would not buy it at this price. Amazon itself was not selling it when we checked, and the price shown is about $550 from a third-party seller, roughly its 90-day average. It dropped to about $300 in mid-April, before the August rise. Wait for Amazon to restock it or for a Black Friday price.
Pros
- +Plays the same current games as the Series X
- +Small and quiet
- +Low power draw
Cons
- −Only about 364GB free for games
- −No disc drive
- −Targets 1440p rather than 4K
- Type
- Console, digital only
- Works with
- Downloads only, up to 1440p
- Power
- Mains

Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 3 for Xbox
by Turtle Beach
The Stealth 600 Gen 3 is the wireless headset we would buy on a budget. SoundGuys got more than 80 hours from a charge and calls it the pick for console and PC players watching their spending, and RTINGS found it comfortable to wear. The Xbox version also works with a PS5, a PC and a phone, so it can follow you between screens.
Skip it if you play in a noisy room. SoundGuys found its isolation weak and its controls hard to learn, and RTINGS found the sound inconsistent. Some owners also find the clamp tight.
It is not a deal right now. At $109 from Amazon, it costs about $12 more than its 90-day average, and it dropped to about $85 last December. We would hold out for a price under $100.
Pros
- +More than 80 hours per charge in SoundGuys testing
- +Comfortable for long sessions
- +Works with Xbox, PS5, PC and phones
- +Swarm II app for EQ and settings
Cons
- −Weak noise isolation
- −Controls take time to learn
- −Tight clamp on larger heads
- −Plasticky build
- Type
- Wireless headset
- Works with
- Xbox, PS5, PC, mobile
- Power
- Rechargeable, 80+ hours

Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C Cable
by Microsoft
Microsoft's own battery pack is the cheapest upgrade most controller owners can make. It replaces the standard controller's AA batteries, Microsoft rates it at up to 30 hours a charge, and it refills in under four hours inside the controller over the included cable. Complete Xbox called it the easiest of the official battery options to live with.
It only charges in the current USB-C controllers, including our second Pick, so owners of older micro-USB Xbox One pads need a different solution. The Elite Series 2 Core has its own built-in battery and does not need one.
At under $19 from Amazon, it sits a few cents under its 90-day average. It sold for $15 in late January, so this is a fair price rather than a deal.
Pros
- +Rated for up to 30 hours per charge
- +Charges inside the controller over USB-C
- +Full charge in under four hours
- +Cable doubles for wired play
Cons
- −Only charges in USB-C Xbox controllers
- −No charging dock; the controller has to be plugged in
- Type
- Controller battery pack
- Works with
- USB-C Xbox controllers
- Power
- Rechargeable, up to 30 hours

ASUS ROG Xbox Ally (Ryzen Z2 A, 512GB)
by ASUS
The ROG Xbox Ally is the handheld for playing a PC Game Pass library away from the TV. It is a Windows PC built by ASUS with Microsoft's Xbox full-screen interface, and Notebookcheck liked its comfortable chassis, its 120Hz screen and its battery life.
It does not play Series X|S discs or console installs; it runs PC versions of games and Xbox cloud streaming. Notebookcheck also found the Ryzen Z2 A chip short of power and slower than the Steam Deck OLED in games. Players who want demanding new releases should look at the faster ROG Xbox Ally X, though we found it on Amazon only through a reseller at a large markup.
At about $600 from a third-party seller, it is about $80 under its 90-day average. It sold for $480 last December, so there is room for a deeper cut.
Pros
- +7-inch 1080p screen at 120Hz with variable refresh rate
- +Comfortable, controller-style grips
- +Xbox full-screen interface on top of Windows
- +Solid battery life in Notebookcheck testing
Cons
- −Ryzen Z2 A chip struggles in demanding games
- −Slower than the Steam Deck OLED in Notebookcheck testing
- −Cannot play Series X|S discs or console installs
- Type
- Handheld gaming PC
- Works with
- Windows PC games, Game Pass for PC
- Power
- Rechargeable, 60 Wh

Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Core (White)
by Microsoft
This is the clearest saving on the list as we checked it. At $109.99 from Amazon, the Elite Series 2 Core is about $20 under its 90-day average and matches its lowest price of the past year.
It is Microsoft's pro controller without the accessory kit: thumbsticks with adjustable tension, trigger locks with three stops and a built-in battery rated for 40 hours. Engadget calls it the cheaper route into the Elite experience, and the back paddles and extra sticks can be added later with Microsoft's parts kit. It suits players who want finer control in shooters and racing games.
The catch is durability. Windows Central and MobileSyrup both report bumpers failing on some units, so keep your receipt. A successor has leaked, but Microsoft has not announced it.
Pros
- +Adjustable-tension thumbsticks
- +Trigger locks with three stops
- +Built-in battery rated for up to 40 hours
- +Takes back paddles from the optional parts kit
Cons
- −Bumper failures reported on some units
- −Paddles and extra sticks sold separately
- Type
- Pro controller
- Works with
- Xbox, Windows, Android
- Power
- Rechargeable, up to 40 hours

Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3 for Xbox
by Turtle Beach
If you want a step up from the Stealth 600, the Stealth 700 Gen 3 is Windows Central's top Xbox headset this year. Its larger drivers sound fuller, a charge lasts about 80 hours, and its dual USB transmitter lets you switch between two platforms, such as an Xbox and a PC, with Bluetooth mixing in a phone. GamesRadar also praised its battery and sound.
Windows Central found the microphone only average, and updating the firmware through Turtle Beach's app is fiddly. GamesRadar noted that it costs more than mid-range rivals.
At $159 from Amazon, it sits about $12 under its 90-day average, a small cut. It fell to about $90 in late November last year, so a bigger Black Friday discount is possible, though not promised.
Pros
- +Full, detailed sound from 60mm drivers
- +About 80 hours per charge
- +Dual USB transmitter switches between two platforms
- +Bluetooth audio mixes in alongside game audio
Cons
- −Microphone is only average
- −Firmware updates are fiddly
- Type
- Wireless headset
- Works with
- Xbox, PS5, PC, mobile
- Power
- Rechargeable, 80 hours

How to choose an Xbox deal this Black Friday
Choose the console by your TV and your games. The Series X earns its price on a 4K TV and for anyone who buys or borrows discs. The Series S suits 1080p and 1440p screens and players who live on Game Pass downloads. Neither the Series S nor the Series X Digital Edition can play a disc.
Plan for storage on a Series S. Large games can take 100GB or more, so the Series S fills quickly. Licensed expansion cards run Series X|S games at full speed but cost a lot per terabyte, and we left them out because Amazon was not selling them directly and third-party prices were far above their recent lows. A regular USB drive is a cheap place to keep older games and park the ones you are not playing.
Do not wait for the next Xbox. Reports point to a handheld in 2027 and a new console in 2028, possibly at a much higher price, and none of it is officially dated. A Series X or Series S bought this fall has years of use left.
Ignore the list price. Several cards show a struck-through list price well above what the Product has actually sold for lately. Judge a deal by the 90-day average and 12-month low we quote in each Pick, and remember that this year's console lows came before the August price rise.
Check the seller and the return window. The Series S and the ROG Xbox Ally were sold by third-party sellers when we checked. Amazon usually extends returns over the holidays, but confirm the return date on your order page, especially for a console bought as a gift.
How we chose these xbox deals
Every deal on this page was selected and checked by Ed Hollinghurst. We start from products with a strong track record in independent reviews and owner feedback, then compare the current Black Friday price against the product's typical selling price over the past months, not just the inflated list price. A deal only makes the cut if the product is genuinely good and the discount is real.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon.com at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.
