Microwaves rarely get deep Black Friday cuts, and a month out most of the models below cost what they have sold for all fall. The one clear saving so far is the BLACK+DECKER EM925AB9, at its lowest Amazon price of the past year. The Toshiba EM131A5C-BS is the one to watch: it sold for about $110 on Black Friday last year, roughly $40 under its price now.
We checked every price against what each microwave sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days and its lowest price of the past year, not the list price. This page covers countertop models, including microwave and air fryer combos; over-the-range and drawer models need installation and are mostly sold through appliance retailers.
Our picks at a glance
8 deals1.Our pick for most kitchens: fits a dinner plate, defrosts well and has a mute button. Not discounted yet; it sold for about $110 last Black Friday.
2.The least expensive microwave we trust that also air fries, bakes and broils. At its usual price now, about $40 above its December low.
3.A 4-in-1 combo built on Panasonic's inverter, for even reheating and defrosting. A small cut now; it sold for $368 earlier in October.
4.RTINGS's top-rated microwave: very quiet, easy controls and a 1,250W inverter. At its regular price; it has not dropped in the past year.
5.Breville's polished microwave, air fryer and convection oven in one. At its regular price; no lower on Amazon in the past year.
6.America's Test Kitchen's winning microwave, sized for small kitchens and dorms. At the same price it has held all year.
7.A 2.2 cu ft inverter microwave for families and casserole dishes. At its 90-day average; it dipped to about $432 last December.
8.Reviewed's best microwave under $100, at its lowest Amazon price of the past year when we checked.

#1Best overall
Toshiba EM131A5C-BS 1.2 Cu Ft Microwave
by Toshiba
The EM131A5C-BS is the microwave we would put in most kitchens. It turns up near the top of almost every roundup we read: Tom's Guide names it the best overall, TechGearLab gave it a Top Pick for large capacity, RTINGS lists it among its best cheap models, and Wirecutter has long recommended the stainless version as a budget choice. TechGearLab also rated its defrosting excellent.
It is not an inverter model, so dense leftovers can come out hot in the middle and cooler at the edges; TechGearLab saw the same hot spots. If you defrost a lot of meat, the Panasonic NN-SD975S below heats more gently, at a much higher price.
This is not a deal yet. At about $150 it costs roughly $7 more than its 90-day average, and it sold for about $110 on Black Friday last year. That is the price we would wait for.
Pros
- +Fits a full dinner plate on its 12.4-inch turntable
- +Excellent defrosting in TechGearLab testing
- +Humidity sensor for one-touch reheating
- +Mute button and eco mode
Cons
- −Hot spots in the center with dense food
- −Large, heavy footprint
- −Some owners report the light or display failing early

- 1.2 cu ft
- Power
- 1,000W

GE GCST10A1WSS 4-in-1 Microwave with Air Fry
by GE
The GE is the least expensive way we found to get a well-reviewed microwave that also air fries, bakes with convection and broils. TechGearLab made it its convection pick for most people, finding it quiet and excellent at thawing, and CNN Underscored has also recommended it. It suits a small kitchen with room for one appliance, not two.
Keep expectations modest for the air fryer: owners say it crisps slowly, and the outside of the cabinet gets hot. The beeps are loud, the controls are hard to read, and the full manual is a download. At 3.9 stars, its Amazon rating is among the lowest of our Picks.
At $209 from Amazon it sits right at its 90-day average, so the saving on the card is measured against a list price it has not been selling for. It dropped to about $169 at the end of December last year.
Pros
- +Microwave, air fry, convection and broil in one box
- +Quiet in TechGearLab testing
- +Excellent thawing results
Cons
- −Air frying is underpowered, owners say
- −Loud beeps and hard-to-read controls
- −Outside gets hot in use
- −Full manual is download-only
- Capacity
- 1.0 cu ft
- Power
- 1,050W
- Modes
- Microwave, air fry, convection, broil
- Best for
- One appliance in a small kitchen

#3
Panasonic HomeChef Connect NN-CV87QS 4-in-1
by Panasonic
The HomeChef is the combo to buy if the microwave part matters most to you. It uses Panasonic's inverter, which holds a steady low power instead of switching full power on and off, so defrosting and reheating come out more even. Wirecutter has long recommended Panasonic's inverter microwaves, and TechGearLab named the HomeChef 4-in-1 its most versatile model.
The air fry and bake modes are slow, and the menus and accessories take a few sessions to learn. If you want a combo for occasional crisping and can live without inverter heating, the GE above costs less than half as much.
At about $458 it is roughly $12 under its 90-day average, a small cut. It fell to $368 on October 6, so Panasonic has shown it will go lower, and we would hold out for a price near that.
Pros
- +Inverter microwave with air fry, convection and broil
- +Steady low power for even defrosting
- +20 auto-cook presets
- +Roomy 1.2 cu ft cavity for a combo
Cons
- −Slow air frying and baking
- −Menus take time to learn
- −Accessories are fiddly
- Capacity
- 1.2 cu ft
- Power
- 1,000W
- Modes
- Microwave, air fry, convection, broil
- Best for
- Combo buyers who reheat most

#4Best premium
Breville the Smooth Wave BMO850
by Breville
If price is not the constraint, the Smooth Wave is the best plain microwave here. RTINGS rates it the best microwave it has tested and found it quiet, and America's Test Kitchen gives it a Highly Recommended rating. The 1,250W inverter and sensor reheating take the guesswork out of leftovers and defrosting, the controls are clear, and the soft-close door shuts without a slam.
ATK noted that the extra modes are not a big step up from a good basic microwave, and it takes up a lot of counter. If you want Breville's controls in a smaller box, see the Compact Wave below.
It has sold for $399.95 on Amazon all year, so this is its regular price, not a deal.
Pros
- +Top-rated microwave in RTINGS testing
- +Very quiet, with a soft-close door
- +Clear, easy controls
- +Inverter power and sensor reheating
Cons
- −Takes a lot of counter space
- −Extra modes are a small step up in ATK testing
- −Scattered reports of early failures
- Capacity
- 1.2 cu ft
- Power
- 1,250W
- Modes
- Microwave
- Best for
- Quiet, fuss-free reheating

Breville the Combi Wave 3-in-1 BMO870
by Breville
The Combi Wave is the most refined of the three combos here and the one reviewers have tested most widely. Top Ten Reviews got crisp edges in its baking tests, convection roundups found it among the quietest combos they tried, and Best Buy owners rate it 4.5 stars. It suits a cook who wants to retire a toaster oven or air fryer and keep one appliance on the counter.
Its Amazon rating is lower, at 3.9 stars. The menus take learning, and air frying is slower than in a basket fryer. The cavity is also small for the space it takes. The Panasonic HomeChef gives you similar modes in a larger 1.2 cu ft box.
At about $500 it has not dropped lower on Amazon in the past year. Treat this as its regular price.
Pros
- +Microwave, air fryer and convection oven in one
- +Crisp edges in Top Ten Reviews' baking tests
- +Among the quietest combos reviewers have tried
- +Rated 4.5 stars by Best Buy owners
Cons
- −Small cavity for its outside size
- −Menus take time to learn
- −Air frying is slower than a basket air fryer
- Capacity
- 1.1 cu ft
- Power
- 1,200W
- Modes
- Microwave, air fry, convection
- Best for
- Replacing a toaster oven

Breville the Compact Wave Soft Close BMO650
by Breville
For a small kitchen, dorm or office, the Compact Wave is the one we would buy. America's Test Kitchen named it its winning microwave, praising the cooking results and how simple the controls are, and the finish resists fingerprints. The soft-close door is a nice touch at this size.
There is no sensor reheat, so you set times yourself, and it is light enough to slide on the counter. At 900W it is also slower than the 1,000W-plus models here. If you only reheat coffee and leftovers, the BLACK+DECKER does the basics for well under half the price.
At $250 it costs what it has cost on Amazon all year, so there is no saving yet.
Pros
- +America's Test Kitchen's winning microwave
- +Very simple controls
- +Fingerprint-resistant finish
- +Soft-close door
Cons
- −No sensor reheat
- −Light enough to slide on the counter
- −Some owners report it failing early
- Capacity
- 0.9 cu ft
- Power
- 900W
- Modes
- Microwave
- Best for
- Small kitchens and dorms

Panasonic NN-SD975S 2.2 Cu Ft Inverter Microwave
by Panasonic
The NN-SD975S is the big-family microwave: 2.2 cubic feet takes casseroles and platters that would crowd a 1.2 cu ft model. It also has Panasonic's inverter, which we would want for defrosting meat evenly, and Reviewed gave it its Editor's Choice for families, praising the even heating and the responsive buttons and dial.
It needs a lot of counter space, so measure first, and the design has not changed in years. A few owners report inverter failures. Panasonic's smaller NN-SN686S, which Wirecutter has long recommended, was only available from a third-party seller on Amazon when we checked, so it is not on this page.
At about $475 it sits right at its 90-day average. It dipped to about $432 in mid-December last year, a reasonable bar for a Black Friday price.
Pros
- +2.2 cu ft cavity for casseroles and platters
- +Inverter power for even defrosting and reheating
- +Genius Sensor one-touch cooking
- +Responsive buttons and dial, per Reviewed
Cons
- −Takes up a lot of counter space
- −Dated design
- −Some owner reports of inverter failures
- Capacity
- 2.2 cu ft
- Power
- 1,250W
- Modes
- Microwave
- Best for
- Families and big dishes

#8Best budget
BLACK+DECKER EM925AB9 0.9 Cu Ft Microwave
by BLACK+DECKER
The EM925AB9 is the cheapest microwave here and the only one with a testing award at its price: Reviewed named it the best microwave under $100, citing its useful presets and modern look, and BestReviews called it the easiest to use. More than 12,000 Amazon owners rate it 4.4 stars. It suits a dorm, an office break room or anyone who mostly reheats.
At 900W and 0.9 cu ft it is slower and smaller than the Toshiba, and the end-of-cycle beep is easy to miss from the next room. Some owners report it failing inside a year, so keep the receipt.
This is the clearest saving on the page as we checked it: just under $90, about $7 under its 90-day average and its lowest Amazon price of the past year.
Pros
- +Reviewed's best microwave under $100
- +Useful one-touch presets
- +Easy to use
- +Small enough for a dorm or office
Cons
- −Slow to heat
- −Small cavity
- −End-of-cycle beep is quiet
- −Some owners report failures inside a year
- Capacity
- 0.9 cu ft
- Power
- 900W
- Modes

How to choose a microwave this Black Friday
Start with size. A 0.9 cu ft model like the Compact Wave or BLACK+DECKER handles mugs and single plates in a small space. About 1.2 cu ft suits most households, and the 2.2 cu ft Panasonic is for families who reheat casseroles. Check the turntable diameter against your largest dish, and measure the counter, leaving the clearance the manual asks for.
Decide whether you need an inverter. If you defrost meat or reheat rice and fish often, an inverter model like the Panasonic NN-SD975S, Panasonic HomeChef or Smooth Wave gives steadier, gentler heat. For coffee, popcorn and leftovers, the Toshiba does the job for much less.
Buy a combo only if it replaces something. The GE, Panasonic HomeChef and Combi Wave make sense when they free up the space of a toaster oven or air fryer. All three air fry more slowly than a basket fryer, so keep your air fryer if you use it most nights, or see our air fryer deals if you are replacing one.
Ignore the list price. The struck-through price on a card is often a number nobody has paid in months. Judge a deal by what the microwave sold for over the past 90 days and by its 12-month low, which we quote in every Pick.
Check the return window before you unbox. Amazon usually extends returns over the holidays, but confirm the date on your order page. Test a new microwave in the first week, since owners of several models here report early failures.
How we chose these microwave deals
Every deal on this page was selected and checked by Ed Hollinghurst. We start from products with a strong track record in independent reviews and owner feedback, then compare the current Black Friday price against the product's typical selling price over the past months, not just the inflated list price. A deal only makes the cut if the product is genuinely good and the discount is real.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon.com at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.
