Watch prices on Amazon move a lot over a year, and the lows do not all land in November. A month before Black Friday, the Seiko 5 Sports SRPD55 was about $43 under its 90-day average and the Bulova Lunar Pilot about $37 under its own. Most of the others were at or just above their usual prices, and several sold for less earlier this year, so Black Friday has a bar to clear.
We checked every price against what each watch sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days and its lowest price of the past year, not the list price. Where a watch is not discounted, or is sold by a third-party seller, its Pick says so.
Our picks at a glance
8 deals1.A real Japanese automatic with day/date and 100m that dresses up or down. About $43 under its 90-day average, from a third-party seller.
2.The original square G-Shock, now with an LED backlight: tough, light and rated to 200m. About $9 under its 90-day average.
3.The Swiss step up, with sapphire and a finely finished integrated bracelet. Not discounted; it has been $450 all year on Amazon.
4.A small, light solar field watch for slim wrists and unisex wear. Above its 90-day average now; it sold for $135 in August.
5.An automatic dress watch with a domed crystal that looks pricier than it is. Near its usual price, from a third-party seller.
6.The cheapest watch we would still recommend: steel case, 200m and a solid bezel. At its usual price; it sold for about $54 in September.
7.A moon-flown chronograph design with sapphire and high-frequency quartz. About $37 under its 90-day average at Amazon.
8.A light, unisex everyday watch with Indiglo for under $50. Close to its usual price; it sold for about $35 in early October.

Seiko 5 Sports SRPD55
by Seiko
The SRPD55 is the watch we would point most readers to first. Its 4R36 automatic movement winds itself as you wear it, can also be wound by hand, and stops the seconds hand so you can set it exactly. Grailr names it its everyday automatic, and The Tested Hub, after long-term wear, called it the entry automatic it recommends most. It looks like a dive watch but sits under a shirt cuff, and the day/date display earns its place on a work watch.
Skip it if you want quartz accuracy or a slim watch. Reviewers also find the hollow-link bracelet and the bezel feel cheaper than the rest.
At about $280 it is roughly $43 under its 90-day average, but it fell to about $220 last November, so Black Friday could go lower. Amazon was not the seller when we checked, so confirm who is before you buy.
Pros
- +Automatic movement that also hand-winds and hacks
- +Day and date display
- +100m water resistance
- +Dive-style looks that still fit under a cuff
Cons
- −Far less accurate than quartz
- −Hollow-link bracelet feels cheap
- −Hardlex crystal rather than sapphire
- −Thick at 13.4mm

- Automatic (Seiko 4R36)
- Case size
- 42.5mm

Casio G-Shock DW5600UE-1V
by Casio
The square G-Shock is for people who want to stop thinking about their watch. It survives knocks that would crack most watches, is rated to 200m, and has an alarm, stopwatch and countdown timer. The Gadgeteer, revisiting it in May, still called it the definitive tough digital watch. Amazon now ships the updated DW5600UE-1V under this long-running listing, with an LED backlight in place of the older model's EL panel.
Skip it if you want hands you can read at a glance or a watch for the office; the Duro below is the cheaper analog Casio.
At $99 from a third-party seller, it is about $9 under its 90-day average. It sold for under $60 last December, but that was before Casio raised the list price for the updated model to $99.95, so we would not expect a return to that low.
Pros
- +Shrugs off knocks and drops
- +200m water resistance
- +Alarm, stopwatch and countdown timer
- +LED backlight on the updated module
Cons
- −Digital-only display
- −Resin strap and bezel wear over the years
- −Too casual for a suit
- Movement
- Quartz (digital)
- Case size
- 48.9 x 42.8mm
- Water resistance
- 200m

Tissot PRX 40mm Quartz (Blue Dial)
by Tissot
The PRX is the step up to a Swiss watch, and the reason to pay more than the Seiko is the build. aBlogtoWatch singled out the finishing on the case and integrated bracelet, which alternates brushed and polished surfaces in a way you rarely see under $500, and WatchCharts rated it well for the money. You also get sapphire crystal, 100m of water resistance and a case slim enough for a dress shirt.
Skip it if you like changing straps. Tissot's quick-release system only takes Tissot's own bands, so standard straps will not fit, and the quartz movement inside is a plain one.
There is no deal here. Amazon has not sold it for less than $450 at any point in the past year, and it was $450 when we checked. Buy it because you want it, not because of Black Friday.
Pros
- +Case and bracelet finishing well above its price
- +Sapphire crystal
- +Slim 10.4mm case
- +Quick-release bracelet
Cons
- −Proprietary bracelet, so standard straps will not fit
- −Basic quartz movement
- −Bracelet needs links removed to fit most wrists
- Movement
- Swiss quartz
- Case size
- 40mm
- Water resistance
- 100m
- Crystal
- Sapphire
- Strap
- Integrated steel bracelet

Citizen Garrison BM8180-03E
by Citizen
The Garrison is our pick for smaller wrists and for anyone who wants a watch they barely notice. At 37mm wide and about 9mm thick it is light, and Citizen's Eco-Drive charges from daylight or a desk lamp, so battery changes are rare. aBlogtoWatch included it among the field watches that are actually affordable and praised how little it asks of its owner. It is our unisex choice alongside the Timex Weekender.
Skip it if you want a watch with presence. It reads small on large wrists, and the mineral crystal and plain nylon strap show where Citizen saved money.
Wait on this one. At about $236 from Amazon it costs about $26 more than its 90-day average, and it sold for $135 in August. We would hold out for a price well under $200.
Pros
- +Solar charging, so battery swaps are rare
- +37mm wide and about 9mm thick
- +Very light on the wrist
- +100m water resistance
Cons
- −Plain nylon strap
- −Mineral crystal scratches
- −Reads small on large wrists
- Movement
- Solar quartz (Eco-Drive)
- Case size
- 37mm
- Water resistance
- 100m
- Crystal

Orient Bambino Version 2 FAC00009W0
by Orient
The Bambino is the dress watch on this list: a white dial, thin hands and a domed crystal that curves at the edges and gives it a vintage look. Inside is an Orient automatic movement that can also be wound by hand. Grailr includes the Bambino line in its shortlist of cheap watches worth buying, and owners describe it as more watch than the price suggests. It suits weddings, offices and anyone who wants one smart watch to wear with a suit.
Skip it if the watch might get wet, because 30m means rain and hand-washing, not swimming. Plan to replace the leather strap, too.
It is not discounted. At about $255 from a third-party seller, it is a few dollars above its 90-day average, and it sold for about $218 a year ago.
Pros
- +Domed crystal gives it a vintage look
- +Automatic movement that also hand-winds
- +Clean white dial that works with a suit
Cons
- −Only 30m water resistance
- −Mineral crystal rather than sapphire
- −Basic leather strap
- Movement
- Automatic (Orient F6724)
- Case size
- 40.5mm
- Water resistance
- 30m
- Crystal
- Domed mineral

#6Best budget
Casio Duro MDV106-1AV
by Casio
The Duro is the cheapest watch we would still recommend. It has a steel case, a dive-style bezel with a firm click, a 200m rating and 22mm lugs that take any standard strap, which is why it has a large following among people who swap straps and parts. DIVEIN and BladeReviews both rate it the value pick among cheap dive-style watches, and it holds 4.7 stars across more than 32,000 Amazon ratings.
Skip it if you plan to scuba dive with it: 200m is Casio's own rating, not the ISO diver standard. The resin strap is stiff out of the box and the lume fades quickly after dark.
At about $69 from Amazon it is within $2 of its 90-day average, so it is not discounted. It sold for about $54 at the end of September, a price worth waiting for.
Pros
- +Steel case and a firm rotating bezel
- +200m water resistance
- +Standard 22mm lugs for easy strap swaps
- +4.7 stars across more than 32,000 Amazon ratings
Cons
- −Stiff resin strap
- −Dim lume
- −Mineral crystal scratches
- −44mm wears large on small wrists
- Movement
- Quartz
- Case size
- 44mm
- Water resistance
- 200m
- Crystal
- Mineral
- Strap

#7Best premium
Bulova Lunar Pilot 96B251
by Bulova
The Lunar Pilot is our premium pick and the one statement watch here that is cheaper than usual right now. It reissues the Bulova chronograph that Apollo 15 commander Dave Scott wore on the moon, and its high-frequency quartz movement keeps closer time than ordinary quartz and drives a chronograph hand that sweeps rather than ticks. WatchCharts and Vivir both credit its legibility, and sapphire crystal plus two straps in the box add to the value.
Skip it if you have slim wrists: it is 45mm across, and the long lugs make it wear larger still. It is also only rated to 50m.
At about $456 from Amazon it is around $37 under its 90-day average. Ignore the $795 list price on the listing, which it does not sell for; it went for about $382 in March, so a deeper cut is possible.
Pros
- +High-frequency quartz with a sweeping chronograph hand
- +Sapphire crystal
- +Legible black dial
- +Comes with leather and nylon straps
Cons
- −45mm case is too big for slim wrists
- −Only 50m water resistance
- Movement
- High-frequency quartz chronograph
- Case size
- 45mm
- Water resistance
- 50m
- Crystal
- Sapphire
- Strap
- Leather and nylon

Timex Weekender 38mm T2N647
by Timex
The Weekender is the watch to buy for under $50, and a safe gift because it is unisex and inexpensive. The 38mm case is light, the slip-through nylon strap swaps in seconds for any 20mm strap, and pressing the crown lights the whole dial with Timex's Indiglo. Sam Talks Style calls it the best budget watch for most people.
Skip it if noise bothers you. Two Broke Watch Snobs likened the tick to a quartz wall clock, and you will hear it on a nightstand. The case is brass under the finish, so it will not age as well as the steel Duro.
At about $46 from Amazon it is around $2 above its 90-day average, and it sold for about $35 on October 6. We would wait for something under $40.
Pros
- +Indiglo lights the whole dial evenly
- +Light 38mm case suits most wrists
- +Slip-through strap swaps in seconds
Cons
- −Loud tick
- −Brass case and mineral crystal
- −Only 30m water resistance
- Movement
- Quartz
- Case size
- 38mm
- Water resistance
- 30m
- Crystal
- Mineral
- Strap
- Nylon slip-through

How to choose watches this Black Friday
Pick the movement before the brand. Quartz (the G-Shock, PRX, Duro, Lunar Pilot and Weekender) is the most accurate and cheapest to own. Solar, as in the Garrison, rarely needs a battery. Automatics like the Seiko and Bambino are for people who enjoy a mechanical watch and accept that it drifts by seconds a day. If you want notifications and fitness tracking instead, see our Apple Watch deals.
Measure your wrist. Most wrists suit 37mm to 40mm. The Seiko at 42.5mm, the Duro at 44mm and the Lunar Pilot at 45mm wear large, so check the lug-to-lug length on a slim wrist.
Buy the water resistance you will use. 30m is for rain and hand-washing, 50m for a brief swim, and 100m or more for regular swimming.
Ignore the list price. The list price on an Amazon listing is often one nobody has paid in months: the Lunar Pilot's says $795, but it averaged about $493 over the past 90 days. Judge a deal by what the watch sold for over the past 90 days and its 12-month low, which we quote in every Pick.
Check the seller and the return date. Three Picks were sold by third-party sellers when we checked, and a brand warranty usually depends on buying from an authorized dealer. Amazon usually extends returns over the holidays, but confirm the date on your order page in case the size feels wrong.
How we chose these watches deals
Every deal on this page was selected and checked by Ed Hollinghurst. We start from products with a strong track record in independent reviews and owner feedback, then compare the current Black Friday price against the product's typical selling price over the past months, not just the inflated list price. A deal only makes the cut if the product is genuinely good and the discount is real.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon.com at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.
