Most of our Picks are at their usual Amazon prices in late October, but two are already at their lowest of the past year: Forza Horizon 6 is about $16 under its 90-day Amazon average, and Resident Evil Requiem about $12.50. Nintendo's Switch 2 games, by contrast, have barely moved.
We checked every price against what each game sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days and its lowest price of the past year, not its list price. Each Pick is one game on one console. Where a game is also on other platforms, we say so.
Our picks at a glance
8 deals1.The PS5 game we would buy first, with the new story expansion included. Sold by Amazon at its launch price; no cut yet.
2.The Switch 2 game to buy after Mario Kart, built around smashing through every level. At its usual price; it was about $63 in January.
3.The best two-player couch co-op game here, and the cheapest Pick. About its usual price; it hit $30 during Thanksgiving week last year.
4.One of the best-reviewed games of 2026, for adults who like horror. About $12.50 under its recent average and at its lowest of the past year.
5.The family game for a Switch 2 bought without the bundle. It has not dropped below $79 in the past year, so there is no cut to hold out for.
6.Last year's Game of the Year and our RPG pick. Not discounted yet; it was $40 last December.
7.The PS5 game for kids and new owners. Slightly above its recent average now; it fell to about $33 in February.
8.The best-reviewed racer of 2026 and our Xbox pick. About $16 under its recent average and at its lowest price of the past year.
Our picks
Ghost of Yōtei is the game we would buy first for a PS5. OpenCritic averages 89, and reviewers singled out its sword fights and the landscapes of Ezo as a step up from Ghost of Tsushima. The Complete Edition, out October 1, adds the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion and the Most Wanted survival mode; the online co-op Legends mode is a free update for every owner. We have not seen many reviews of the expansion yet, so this rank rests on the base game.
Critics were cooler on the revenge story, and Tsushima players will find the structure familiar. It is violent, so not one for younger players.
We chose this edition because Amazon sells it directly; the standard disc was only available from third-party sellers when we checked, for about $13 less, but owners of that disc have to pay again on the PlayStation Store for the expansion. At $69.99 the Complete Edition has not been cut since launch, so this is a recommendation, not a deal yet.
Pros
- +Fast, brutal sword combat that reviewers rate above Ghost of Tsushima's
- +Huge, varied landscapes across Ezo
- +Complete Edition adds a story expansion and a survival mode
Cons
- −Revenge story and lead character are the weak points
- −Structure feels familiar after Ghost of Tsushima
- −Exploration nudges you along more than some will like

- PS5
- Genre
- Open-world action
- Players
- 1; online co-op in Legends

#2
Donkey Kong Bananza (Nintendo Switch 2)
by Nintendo
Donkey Kong Bananza is the Switch 2 game to buy once you have Mario Kart World. GameSpot and Nintendo Life both scored it 9 out of 10 and Famitsu gave it 38 of 40, all for the same reason: you can punch, dig and tunnel through almost every level, and moving around them feels great. VGC was more measured and put it just short of Super Mario Odyssey. A second player can join as Pauline, which makes it a good pick for a parent and child.
Reviewers noted a camera that struggles underground and frame dips during big moments of destruction. Experienced players will find it easy.
At $69 from Amazon, it costs what it has sold for all fall. It reached about $63 in January, and Nintendo rarely goes lower, so a few dollars off is the realistic Black Friday hope.
Pros
- +Nearly everything in a level can be smashed or dug through
- +Satisfying movement and climbing
- +Second player can join as Pauline
Cons
- −Camera struggles in tight underground spaces
- −Frame rate dips during heavy destruction
- −Easy for experienced players
- Platform
- Nintendo Switch 2
- Genre
- 3D platformer

- 1–2 (local co-op)

#3Best budget
Split Fiction (PS5)
by Electronic Arts
Split Fiction is the best game here for two people on one couch, and our budget pick. GameSpot gave it 10 out of 10 and OpenCritic averages 91. It changes its rules every few minutes, from sci-fi chases to fantasy puzzles, so neither player has time to get bored. One copy covers couch co-op, and the Friend's Pass lets a second player join online without buying the game. It is also on Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC.
There is no single-player mode, so skip it if you mostly play alone. Reviewers found the story thinner than the gameplay, and Digital Trends, at 3.5 out of 5, was the main dissent.
At about $32 from Amazon, it is roughly a dollar under its 90-day average. It dropped to $30 during Thanksgiving week last year, and that is the number to watch for.
Pros
- +New mechanics every few minutes
- +One copy covers couch co-op
- +Friend's Pass lets a second player join online for free
Cons
- −No solo mode
- −Story is thinner than the gameplay
- −Some long loading screens
- Platform
- PS5
- Genre
- Co-op action-adventure
- Players
- 2 (couch or online)

#4
Resident Evil Requiem Amazon Exclusive Edition (PS5)
by Capcom
Resident Evil Requiem is our horror pick, and one of only two games here with a real discount. IGN gave it 9 out of 10 and OpenCritic put it in its Hall of Fame at 89. Reviewers liked the slow, frightening sections as Grace best, and the visuals drew praise across the board. This Amazon Exclusive Edition is the standard game plus a two-sided poster.
It is a gory horror game for adults. TechRadar was among those who found the second half leans into action, with weaker bosses and a messy story, and the heavy film grain will not suit everyone. Xbox and Switch 2 owners can buy their own versions; Digital Foundry rated the Switch 2 port well, though it trails the PS5 version.
At $49.99 from Amazon, it is about $12.50 under its 90-day average and matches its lowest price of the past year.
Pros
- +Tense, slow survival-horror sections
- +Close to photoreal visuals on PS5
- +Amazon edition adds a two-sided poster
Cons
- −Second half leans hard into action
- −Muddled story and underwhelming bosses
- −Heavy film grain effect
- Platform
- PS5
- Genre
- Survival horror
- Players
- 1
- Also on
- Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC

#5
Mario Kart World (Nintendo Switch 2)
by Nintendo
Mario Kart World is the game for any Switch 2 bought without the Mario Kart bundle, and the one the whole household will play. OpenCritic averages 86 and Nintendo Life gave it 9 out of 10. Knockout Tour, which eliminates racers across a run of linked tracks, was the standout for most reviewers, and reviewers rated the core racing as sharp as ever. Four people can play on one screen.
The open-world Free Roam mode is the weak spot. VGC and Game Informer both found it empty, with little to do between races.
Do not hold out for a discount. Amazon has not sold it for less than $79 at any point in the past year, so the price on the card is the price.
Pros
- +Knockout Tour elimination mode
- +Sharp core racing
- +Four players on one screen, up to 24 online
- +Large soundtrack of remixed series music
Cons
- −Free Roam mode feels empty
- Platform
- Nintendo Switch 2
- Genre
- Kart racing
- Players
- 1–4 local, up to 24 online
- Also on
- Switch 2 exclusive
- Released

#6
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (PS5)
by Kepler Interactive
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won Game of the Year at The Game Awards last December and is the RPG we would pick for a PS5. OpenCritic averages 92, with 97% of critics recommending it. Its turn-based battles ask you to dodge and parry in real time, which keeps fights tense, and its story and score drew as much praise as the combat. It is also on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
It is a long game built around fighting. PC Gamer's 70 was the main dissent, and its complaint was that the combat dominates; difficulty spikes also catch players out.
This is not a deal yet. At about $49 from Amazon it sits a couple of dollars above its 90-day average. It sold for $40 last December, which is the price to watch for over Black Friday week.
Pros
- +Turn-based fights with real-time dodges and parries
- +Story and soundtrack praised as much as the combat
- +Distinctive art direction
Cons
- −Long and heavily focused on combat
- −Sharp difficulty spikes
- Platform
- PS5
- Genre
- Turn-based RPG
- Players
- 1
- Also on
- Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Released

Astro Bot is the PS5 game for kids and for anyone who has just bought the console. It was the best-reviewed game of 2024, with an OpenCritic average of 95, and Push Square counts it among the best games on the system. Nearly every level adds a new idea, and nothing else shows off the DualSense controller's rumble and triggers as well.
It is short, about 12 to 15 hours, and much of it is easy for experienced players. If you want something that lasts, Ghost of Yōtei or Clair Obscur will keep you busy far longer.
At about $45 from Amazon, it sits a couple of dollars over its 90-day average, so it is not discounted. It fell to about $33 in February, and we would wait for something closer to that.
Pros
- +Inventive levels that keep adding new ideas
- +Best showcase for the DualSense controller's haptics
- +Easy for any age to pick up
Cons
- −Short at around 12 to 15 hours
- −Easy for experienced players
- Platform
- PS5

- 3D platformer

- PS5 exclusive

#8
Forza Horizon 6 Standard Edition (Xbox Series X)
by Xbox Game Studios
Forza Horizon 6 is our Xbox pick and the clearest saving on this list. At $42 from Amazon, it is about $16 under its 90-day average and at its lowest price of the past year. Metacritic averages 92. Reviewers praised the Japan setting, the seasons and weather that change it, and handling that works for newcomers and racing fans alike.
The criticism is that it plays safe. Progression is slow, the events stick closely to the Horizon formula, and the AI drivers are uneven. It is also included with Game Pass Ultimate, so subscribers should check before buying a disc. PS5 owners will have to wait for the January 26, 2027 release.
Pros
- +Japan setting with changing seasons and weather
- +Approachable, satisfying handling
- +Large car roster
Cons
- −Slow progression
- −Event design sticks closely to the Horizon formula
- −Uneven AI drivers
- Platform
- Xbox Series X
- Genre
- Open-world racing
- Players
- 1, plus online modes
- Also on
- PC; PS5 in January 2027

How to choose video games this Black Friday
Buy the version for the console you own. Each Pick links to one platform's edition. Split Fiction, Resident Evil Requiem and Clair Obscur are also on Xbox, and the first two on Switch 2, so search for your version. PS5 Digital Edition owners need Sony's disc drive, covered in our PS5 deals, to play any PS5 disc here, and the Xbox Series S has no disc drive at all.
Match the game to who will play it. For families and younger players, Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and Astro Bot are the safe choices. For two people sharing a couch, Split Fiction. Ghost of Yōtei, Resident Evil Requiem and Clair Obscur are violent games for adults.
Ignore the list price. Several cards show a struck-through list price well above what the game has sold for on Amazon over the past 90 days. Judge a deal by the 90-day average and the 12-month low we quote in each Pick.
Expect small cuts on Nintendo games. Nintendo's biggest Switch 2 games move a few dollars at most, and Mario Kart World has not dropped below $79 in the past year. If you see one of them close to its 12-month low, that is about as good as it gets.
Check the seller and keep gifts sealed. Popular games sometimes show a third-party seller at the top of the listing, so look at who ships it before ordering. Opened games are harder to return than sealed ones, so leave a gift in its wrapping until you are sure.
How we chose these video games deals
Every deal on this page was selected and checked by Ed Hollinghurst. We start from products with a strong track record in independent reviews and owner feedback, then compare the current Black Friday price against the product's typical selling price over the past months, not just the inflated list price. A deal only makes the cut if the product is genuinely good and the discount is real.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon.com at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.
